A Word From Willie – “Drain Wire”

I thought it would be nice to share a word of the day for many of our customers who don’t have in-depth knowledge of the wire & cable dictionary.

I’d like to start off today with the word –  Drain Wire.

A drain wire is an uninsulated wire within an instrumentation or control cable, used as a ground wire and used to discharge unwanted signals.

Drain wires are found mostly in our Low Voltage Category which contains many cables used as instrumentation and control cables.

Some of these cables with drain wires are Shielded Plenum & Riser Security Alarm Cables, Shielded Communication Cables (belden equivalents) & Shielded FPLR Fire Alarm Cables.

To view all these items in our Low Voltage Category please click here.

Drain wires are also found in our 10awg-18awg Tray Cables both THHN-PVC & XLP-PVC.

Hope you learned something new & thanks for stopping by!
