Diesel Locomotive Cable & Airplane Batteries

2 AWG Diesel Locomotive Cable

Big thanks to our customer, Mannan, who snapped this photo of his plane down in Florida.  Mannan purchased #6 awg diesel locomotive cable for his battery application.

Here is what Mannan had to say about the plane and the diesel locomotive cable:

Here’s a shot if my plane.  It is called an RV-8 and is a kit plane.  I finished and first flew it in 2006.  It cruises at over 200 mph and burns less than 10 gallons of 100 octane low lead fuel per hour.  It took me over 3 and a half years to build it and has over 14,000 rivets.  (These are not “pop” rivets!)  It is designed to do aerobatics and is a hoot to fly.  Wife and I have been coast to coast and back twice.

The 2awg diesel locomotive cable that I bought from you guys will be used to run a dedicated “ground” from the battery which is located in the rear for proper balance, forward to the firewall.  At the firewall, there will be a post to connect all the avionics and all the rest of the electrical components.”

We appreciate the fun photo and the info, Mannan!  Fly safe!!

We offer diesel locomotive cables in several sizes and cut it by the foot at no extra charge.  We ship  this cable the same day its ordered as long as its placed before 3pm cst and customers usually receive it within 1-3 business days.

Offered by the foot with a wide selection of colors, THHN comes in a PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation with a nylon jacket.  THHN wire can be used in a conduit but is not rated for direct burial alone. Our 6 awg THHN is also THWN-2 dual rated which means this conductor is appropriate for use in wet or dry locations at temperatures not to exceed 90° C or not to exceed 75°C in oil or coolants.  It is rated for 55 amps @ 60°C.

3 AWG THHN Wire for Tesla’s Electric Cars

THHN Wire For Tesla Electric Car

We want to send a thanks to our friend and customer, Jay, down in Texas for sending in this photo of his new Tesla car being charged.  Jay needed to buy #3 awg THHN building wire in order for him to charge up his new electric car.

According to Jay:

” I had to hook up the fastest sports car on the market . 0- 60 in 3.9 seconds! Tesla has the fastest super chargers out there, takes 30 minutes to recharge, BUT you need 100 amp #3AWG wire to do it!”

Jay also sent us a link on some interesting facts about the history of electric cars:

Did you know that the first vehicles were electric and not combustion?
“Electric cars were popular in the late 19th century and early 20th century, until advances in internal combustion engine technology and mass production of cheaper gasoline vehicles led to a decline in the use of electric drive vehicles”  Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_car

We appreciate the info, Jay, and look forward to seeing the progress of electric cars in our country!

Type W Portable Power Cable For Portable Generators

Type W Portable Cord

Sending a big thanks to our customer, Dave, out in Indiana for snapping the above photo.   Dave decided to buy 6 AWG 4 Conductor Type W Portable Power Cable from us for his generator at home.  The 6/4 Type W Portable Power Cord is rated for 87 amps and is suited for 2000 Volt applications.  Dave took the photo before hooking the cord into his fuse box.

Our Type W Multiconductor Portable Cord is commonly used for portable generators along with our  SOOW Multiconductor Portable Cords.  One of the main difference between the Type W Portable Cord & the SOOW Portable Cord are the voltage ratings on the cords.  The SOOW cord is rated for 600 Volt applications while the Type W is rated for 2000 Volts application.  The Type W also has a more durable jacket, suitable for tougher environments, and is available in larger gauge sizes than the SOOW.

Please click here to learn more about the sizes available and our pricing on the Type W Portable Power Cable.

Looking for THWN-2 Wire?

Does your job or home improvement project require THWN-2 wire?

If so, you’ve came to the right place!

Occasionally, customers purchasing THHN for the first time ask if  our wire is THHN/ THWN-2 dual rated?  The answer is, yes.

All of the THHN wire Wire & Cable To Go supplies comes THHN/THWN-2 dual rated.  Matter of fact, most THHN wire made in the USA these days is dual rated with THWN-2.

Curious what THWN means?

Thermoplastic Heat and Water-Resistant Nylon Coated

(-2) indicates its rated 90 degrees for both wet or dry locations.

If you see the THWN without a -2 at the ends it means its rated 75 degrees for both wet or dry locations

We supply THHN/THWN-2 copper building wire in all sizes and different colors and cut it by the exact foot you need at no extra charge!

Our 10awg, 12awg & 14awg THHN/THWN-2 are the only sizes that come in 500′ & 2500′ spools lengths only.

Please click here to view our THHN/THWN-2 building wire category.
